So you just bought this really nice dog, and you are thinking about breeding it, may it be for personal gain, or maybe just one litter so the kids can see it born and learn about reproduction. Have you thought about what goes into breeding a dog, a good dog. What traits it may pass onto its off spring, is there any hereditary defects in either the mother or fathers lines. Who is going to take these puppies, are you going to make sure they go to good homes, what if they can't keep the puppy do you take it back or have them give it to the Human Society.
Are you planning on being a back yard breeder or a hobby breeder? You ask what is the difference, well to start a back yard breeder is in for the money and personal gain, the hobby breeder is the one showing there dogs and making sure all the proper certifications are done and knows there dog meets breed standards. The back yard breeder usually sells there dogs off spring for 300-400.00 and the hobby breeder will usually sell theres for 900-1200.00. Why such a difference in the price. Following is a break down of what we do, before we get to breeding one of our dogs.

Total 5,656.00
This is the amount pending no c-section or complications with pregnancy.
Say you sell puppies for 900.00 and you dog had 7, you will keep one so you sell 6 you make 5.400.00 as you see you lost 256.00 but a hobby breeder does not do it for the money they do it for the breed. Now think maybe you get a male to so you won't have to pay a stud fee, well you have to times everything by two so now you just lost a ton of money and created alot of work for yourself. Is it really worth it or not.
